Back-end Web Developer

As one of the most popular PC games today, League of Legends is reshaping PC gaming and core gamers perception of virtual goods.  Riot Games (named a Top 30 developer by Game Developer Magazine), the publisher and developer of League of Legends, is experiencing a period of rapid growth, doubling the size of the company in the past year.  With several million players in their first game across the US and Europe, and numerous awards (including IGN.com’s Readers' Choice for Best Multiplayer Game for League of Legends), Riot Games has pioneered new ground with their debut title and is continuing to aggressively expand.

Building on this success, Riot Games is looking for multiple creative Back-end Web Developers to help us build a rapidly growing, community focused web property that’s at the cutting edge of technology. On the Riot Games web team you will not find yourself working on pre-packaged or pre-determined solutions, but instead collaborating with our team to identify new and creative ways to scale one of the fastest growing websites in the world.  We are self-organized, self-motivated, and the drivers of our own solutions.  

About the Job

  • Identify customer needs to architect and develop features/systems for leagueoflegends.com, the in game store, and the platform
  • Self-manage work and schedule
  • Grow yourself and your management
  • Provide feedback about processes used by the team
  • Collaborate with other teams to deliver results
  • Focused on results, not hours invested
  • Boil up feedback about the game/platform in company playtests

About You

Experienced with: 

  • Senior level knowledge of core web technologies: PHP & Javascript (multiple libraries)
  • Working knowledge of OOP and OOD
  • UNIX
  • MVC and Plugin Architecture

Basic Understanding of:

  • Best practices with relational databases (normalization, sharding, debugging queries using built in log files)
  • Best practices with security (XSS and String sanitation techniques)
  • N-tier and REST.
  • Test Driven Development using any PHP unit framework 
  • You are excited about the new ideas Riot brings to the web space
  • You are legally authorized or able to obtain legal authorization to work in the US

  • Drupal, Vbulletin, and other CMS/forum software
  • SCRUM/Agile
  • jQuery, Javascript, CSS/HTML
  • CakePHP, Grails/Groovy, or other MVC frameworks
  • Java
  • NoSQL solutions
