Director of Creative Design

We have a great opportunity for a Director of Creative Design in our Los Angeles, CA office.  This opportunity is best suited for a well-rounded creative professional with a deep understanding of our audience, a talent for motivating and leading creative teams, and proven experience shepherding the development of IP and characters.  The ideal candidate will be a gamer with a passion for team-based online multiplayer games.  Applicants must also be able to remain positive and work effectively and efficiently in a team-oriented environment.  This position is only loosely about being creative – success is not measured by what ‘ideas’ the employee pushes forward successfully.  This role is fundamentally about the results – building Riot Games into a sustainable, world-renowned engine of creative excellence and enthusiasm that repeatedly delivers characters and worlds that gamers love.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a positive force of change within Riot Games as an executive of the company
  • Lead the overall Creative Design department at a corporate level.  The Creative Design group expands and develops the IP, focusing on character concepts, world setting, major narratives, etc.
  • Proactively identify, lead and/or enable opportunities to improve and grow Riot Games IP
  • Inform corporate strategy with regards to creative development and IP
  • Develop the talent pool of the creative design department through mentoring, hiring, etc.
  • Work closely with creative design staff and with the art, production, audio and design teams to create a high degree of creative participation.  Evangelize the right goals surrounding what our audience likes, and how we might go about providing a great experience to them

Requirements:

  • Experience leading a creative team of significant pedigree in a professional setting
  • 5+ years of professional experience
  • Credibility, poise and perspective necessary to be an executive of the company
  • Significant Motion Picture, TV, Game Development or similar entertainment industry experience
  • Extensive experience playing games, and a demonstrated passion for multiplayer online games
  • Fantastic communication skills, and a high degree of inter-personal approachability
  • Proven ability to lead initiatives from start to finish, and respond to problems successfully as they occur
  • Deep expertise in at least one creative subfield:  Creative writing of any type, concept art, game design, etc.
  • Effective at delivering useful feedback to, and responding to feedback from both creative and analytical individuals
  • Must have excellent organizational and communication (verbal & written) skills
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience. We further value candidates with graduate degrees and/or top tier university pedigree
  • This position is in our Los Angeles, CA office
  • Must pass background check
