As a Principal Researcher, you'll join the Insights team – the group of researchers, analysts, and strategists responsible for solving problems and completing analyses that help Rioters to make difficult product decisions. You'll be part of an interdisciplinary team and work closely with Rioters from other disciplines (designers, artists, producers, etc.) to conduct studies to inform the features, systems, and experiences of our products. Your applied or experimental research background will ensure that you're an advocate for players and can provide strategic guidance about their wants, needs, and behaviors.

As a Principal Researcher on the League of Legends team, you'll work on large-scale projects in complex spaces to help provide a solid foundation of data and research for the team to understand how to improve League of Legends for our players. You will lead and run product research across a range of methods and capabilities, including market research, player surveys, focus groups, UX research, segmentation models, and more. You will operate as part of the LoL Insights team, reporting to the Research Lead, and frequently provide findings to designers and leadership across the product.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with product leadership to determine research needs, create research studies using the appropriate methodologies to meet those needs, and present results back to leadership

  • Create research projects from start to finish, to increase the LoL team's understanding of player motivations, pain points, opportunities for product improvements and other foundational insights

  • Conduct primary research including hypothesis generation, survey design, sampling method, fielding, data cleaning, analysis, and presentation of findings

  • Manage 3rd party research vendor projects, timelines, markets, budgets, and incorporating findings into actions that can be applied to our roadmap

  • Mentor more junior researchers and coaching product owners on research practices

Required Qualifications:

  • 8 or more years of relevant professional/academic research experience, with at least 4 or more years of professional research experience at a company

  • Applied experience executing both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, such as conducting user interviews, playtests and usability tests, product surveys, A/B testing, and data analysis on large scale survey responses

  • 2 or more years experience scoping, designing and executing advanced research methods such as Conjoint, MaxDiff

  • Applied experience with methods for data analysis of research datasets, such as clustering analysis (k-means or latent class), basic regressions, or similar

Desired Qualifications:

  • 2 or more years doing research specifically in the games industry

  • Proficiency with statistical tools (SPSS, R, etc.)
