The People Concern

What they do

One of Los Angeles County’s largest social services agencies, The People Concern is a leading provider of, and advocate for, evidence-based solutions to the multi-faceted challenges inherent in homelessness and domestic violence. Through a variety of programs—including mental and medical health care, substance abuse services, and permanent supportive housing—The People Concern provides a fully integrated system of care tailored to the unique needs of homeless individuals, survivors of domestic violence, challenged youth, and others who have nowhere else to turn.

Annually, 5,261 people experiencing homelessness and/or domestic violence in LA County are supported by The People Concern.

How we’re helping

Riot has partnered with The People Concern since 2012 (previously Ocean Park Community Center) by providing community service activities which include hosting holiday parties for senior citizens, making meals for program participants, and sock/toiletries donation drives.

Additionally through grant funding, Riot helped The People Concern develop a Wellness Center in downtown Los Angeles. Specifically, Riot’s funding supported the build-out of a community learning/activity space. This space provides participants a variety of programs and entertainment including:

  • Life skills
  • Safe coping
  • Mental Health awareness and recovery
  • Housing skills
  • Dealing with anger
  • Tabletop games
  • Arts & crafts
