Player-Facing Campaigns

If there’s one word that captures the spirit of our players, it’s passion. This passion extends beyond the game and into communities all around the world. Every few years we conduct surveys with players across Riot’s ecosystem to figure out what cause areas matter most to players region to region because we know that what matters to players in Brazil may be different to those in Japan and in the U.S. We then take that information and look for opportunities throughout the year that directly tie back to the causes they deeply care about. 

In-Game Fundraisers

Every year we host in-game fundraising events across our games. During these events, players can either participate in an in-game charity challenge or purchase a particular skin, Gun Buddy, bundle, or Event Pass with a percentage of the proceeds from that purchase going directly to the Riot Games Social Impact Fund.

Charity Voting Campaign

We also give players a chance to select the nonprofits they want their money to support through our Charity Voting Campaign. Working with our local offices and our grantmaking partner GlobalGiving, we search for regional nonprofits worldwide that we think are leading impactful and meaningful work. We select three nonprofits per region and use the money raised by players through various in-game fundraisers to create a charity pool for each region based on their proportional participation in these campaigns.

During the voting period, players can head over to the campaign site to cast their votes. Players can vote for any nonprofit in any of the participating regions. Each player can only vote once, so it’s important to make it count!

At the end of the voting period, the organization with the most votes from each region will receive 50% of that region’s charity pool. The other two organizations will each receive 25%. Each participating nonprofit will be eligible to receive at least $10,000 USD from the charity pool.

The Why

The money we donate to nonprofits comes directly from the people who play our games so it’s important to us that players also have a say in where that money goes. 

We want to thank everyone who participates in our in-game fundraisers and charity voting campaigns, from the players to the nonprofits. We’re grateful to be a part of a community that  cares about and pushes to make an impact in communities around the world.
