The Audio discipline at Riot strives to deliver lasting sonic experiences for players. We help breathe life into our games, cinematics, esports, albums, and more through the use of sound. We always work to level up our team & techniques by experimenting and playing the games we love. As a Technical Sound Designer, your technical and creative audio skills will combine to deliver a broad range of experiences to players. Joining efforts with a versatile team, you’ll build a strong connection between the game engine and audio and design new features. As a member of the audio discipline, you’ll strive to teach and level up those around you while continuing to challenge and grow yourself.

VALORANT is Riot’s take on a character-based, tactical shooter. The Senior Technical Sound Designer on VALORANT will serve as a craft expert who supports creative and technical goals related to Audio for VALORANT. Note that sound designers on VALORANT who are focused on content creation implement their own material; we are looking for a Senior Technical Sound Designer who will elevate our team’s capabilities beyond the basics. We are highly collaborative, and you can expect to work with the Audio Director, content type Audio Leads, Sound Designers, Game Designers, Producers, as well as members of other disciplines. You will report to an Audio Director.


  • Implement in-game audio assets including sound effects, voice over and music.

  • Work with Wwise project organization, structures, and gameplay parameter setups. Improve memory budgets, streaming look-ahead times, audio compression types and other technical aspects for multiple platforms.

  • Script creative solutions to audio problems using C++, Blueprints in Unreal, etc. Use game engine logic and data in Unreal to trigger and modulate SFX, VO, and music.

  • Define and apply best practices of technical audio workflows, pipelines, and systems to support project and team needs. 

  • Provide technical support for audio discipline members on VALORANT.

  • Contribute to live game updates such as bug fixing, audio implementation improvements, and integration into live builds of the game.

  • Act as a liaison to advocate for audio to the engineering staff, and partner with with diverse teams to find solutions that best support quality audio.

  • Identify, create, grow and troubleshoot audio tools, features, and functionality.

Required Qualifications: 

  • 5+ years of experience in Audio in the games industry with at least 3 years in a technical sound design or equivalent role

  • Experience with Unreal Blueprints visual scripting language or equivalent

  • 3+ years experience using Unreal Engine

  • Wwise implementation skills

  • Understanding of the technical audio constraints regarding audio implementation of current console platforms & PC to accurately predict task duration and understand dependencies

  • Proficient with modern day audio software tools (Pro-Tools, Reaper, Plugins)

  • Balance simultaneous work streams, follow established prioritization, and give ongoing progress reports.

  • Proficient with Perforce

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience scripting in C++ in Unreal
