It’s been a long time coming, and we are excited to announce that we have officially launched two-factor authentication (2FA) for your Riot account. As of today you can enable 2FA to minimize risks and feel safer knowing your account is protected.

Our new MFA system goes beyond the old feature where you were prompted to enter a code only when logging on from a new or unverified device. You can now require a code for every login session for added security.

What is Two-Factor Authentication?

Two-factor authentication is an electronic security measure which permits access to a person’s account only after they have successfully presented two forms of authentication. It’s used to ensure people are who they say they are and protect their accounts and information by more than just a username and password, which can be compromised.

Why is it important?

We know you’ve invested countless hours into your account, and we want to make sure that all of your hard work is protected from potential threats. By enabling 2FA, you’ll be protecting your password, payment information and of course your champions and collections. While this is an opt-in feature, we encourage all players to enable 2FA to give an extra level of security and peace of mind.

Two-factor authentication is now available to players who use Riot as their official login portal. This includes Riot game clients, Riot Client, Riot Mobile, and RiotGames.com. Players logging in through Garena and other 3rd party portals will not have the option to use 2FA.

This new 2FA system will require you to authenticate via email, but we are diligently working to improve on the player experience and will have updates coming later this year.
