It’s been a little over a week since unprecedented wildfires began sweeping through Southern California. These fires, which are burning right in our backyard in Los Angeles, have displaced thousands, destroyed homes, and pushed entire communities to the brink. While firefighters and frontline responders have made significant progress in containing the fires, the fight is far from over, and for many, it remains a day-by-day battle.

As a company rooted in Los Angeles, we want to share how we’re responding — from supporting those impacted to launching in-game fundraisers for natural disaster relief and prevention efforts.

Helping Rioters Through the Fires While Delivering for Players

This crisis has deeply affected our teams, with some Rioters losing their homes and many others still evacuated. In moments like this, our priority is their health and safety. We’ve taken steps to support Rioters navigating this difficult time by providing temporary housing, emergency stipends, and access to advisory services. We’re committed to evolving this support as their needs become clearer.

We also want to thank players for their patience with us during this time. Our Los Angeles headquarters is only a few miles from the Palisades Fire and has remained closed since the fires began, but Riot’s hybrid in-person/remote setup has allowed the LA-based Rioters who are able to work to keep our games and esports running smoothly. Thanks to the dedication of Rioters in Los Angeles and around the world, we remain fully committed to delivering the games and esports you love, even during this challenging time.

While we’re still monitoring and evaluating the impact of the fires on our communities, our focus remains on supporting Rioters and ensuring they can prioritize what matters most: their health, safety, and families.

Responding to Natural Disasters with In-Game Fundraisers

Starting January 22, we’ll be launching in-game fundraisers across Riot regions in VALORANT and League of Legends PC to support global fire and other natural disaster relief. Proceeds will go to the Riot Games Social Impact Fund, which will then direct funds to organizations aiding natural disaster recovery in Southern California and around the world.

  • VALORANT: From January 22 until it leaves the Featured Store on January 30, the EX.O Collection will become a Give Back Bundle. Similar to other VALORANT fundraisers, proceeds from weapon skins and accessories in the bundle during this time will go to the Riot Games Social Impact Fund, a donor-advised fund account sponsored by ImpactAssets.

  • League of Legends: From January 23, 12:00PM PT to February 5 11:59AM PT, proceeds from Firefighter Tristana (unvaulted for this fundraiser) will go to the Riot Games Social Impact Fund, a donor-advised fund account sponsored by ImpactAssets.

Supporting the Southern California Community

It goes without saying that we’re in this for the long-term and will support both the immediate response and years-long recovery efforts in Southern California.

Last week, we launched a double-donation campaign for Rioters, tripling their charitable contributions for organizations like the California Fire Foundation, Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, International Medical Corps, American Red Cross, and World Central Kitchen. Riot has also made direct donations to the California Fire Foundation and International Medical Corps to support relief efforts.

We’ve also used our campus and volunteered our teams to support recovery efforts. Early in the crisis, we provided a backup generator to a local fire station that had lost power, enabling them to continue fighting fires and protecting homes. We’ve donated 400 meals from our campus food operation via World Central Kitchen to support firefighters and frontline responders at the command post at Will Rogers State Park. As we move forward, we’ll explore different ways to use our physical space to help the community in the weeks and months to come. We also know Rioters will be motivated to assist in any way they can, and we will continue to look for ways to get them involved through volunteer opportunities and the donations of equipment and services.

Recovery doesn’t end when the fires are extinguished. Rebuilding communities takes time, and this crisis — so close to home for our headquarters — has inspired us to strengthen our commitment to natural disaster relief and prevention on a global scale. Whether it’s supporting frontline responders, helping displaced families, or contributing to long-term recovery efforts, we remain dedicated to standing with communities in need, here in Southern California and across the world.
